Can Babies Eat Activia?
Activia is actually a brand of yogurt owned and managed by Groupe Danone, also known as The Dannon Company in the USA. It was introduced in France in 1987. Activia has been present worldwide, in more than 70 countries since 2013 and it is considered a functional food, classified as dairy for the improvement of digestive health.
Danone researchers got interested in bifidobacteria in the ‘80s, when they started developing a specific strain, being able to survive even in the acidic medium of yogurt. They added a probiotic strain to the traditional yogurt bacteria. Activia products have a component Bifidobacterium animalis DN 173,010. , a probiotic being marketed under the names: Bifidus Regularis, Bifidus Actiregularis, Bifidus Digestivum si Bifidobacterium Lactis.
Yogurts represent a good source of probiotics. These probiotics assits digestion, bringing relief to those who suffer from diarrhea, and lactose intolerance. Breast milk has substances named prebiotics, which are fibers that our bodies cannot digest, but that the friendly bacteria in our guts feed on to grow and to live. You can supplement probiotics to the babies, who are formula- fed, but it is not necessary to do so.
Babies can eat yogurts if they are old enough to eat solid food. Giving babies “good” bacteria can help you with their tummy problems, such as gas, abdominal discomfort, annoying fussing and subsequently with crying.
