Can Babies Eat Salmon?

Salmon, amongst trout, grayling, whitefish and char are fish belonging to the Salmonidae family. They are native to rivers and streams flowing into the North Atlantic and into the Pacific Ocean. Salmon hatch in fresh water, then they migrate to the ocean, but they return to fresh water for reproducing purposes. They are also intensively farmed in several areas of the world. Wild salmons can have white flesh, but their flesh color varies from orange to red.

Salmon is a very popular food, because it is classified as a healthy meat, being high in protein, in omega-3 fatty acids and in vitamin D. It is also a good source of several B vitamins, selenium iron, magnesium and phosphorus.

Is It Healthy To Eat Smoked Salmon?

Smoked salmon is just like the fresh ones, an excellent source of nutrients, which contribute to keep bones, teeth and muscles healthy and lower the risk of heart disease. Smoked salmon contains a lot of salt, so this is the reason why while fresh salmon can be prepared and given to babies starting at the age of 6 months old, once they start eating solid food, smoked salmon is recommended to be given to babies only later on, at the age of 9 months old. Salmon represents one of the best foods you can give to your baby, because it is also packed with DHA, which supports brain health.
