The liver of mammals, fish and fowl represents a common food consumed by humans. People not only eat the liver of domestic animals like pigs, calves, lambs, oxes, chickens or geese, but also of animals living in the wild like cods, stingrays and burbots.

Liver can be boiled, broiled, fried, stir-fried, baked or eaten even raw. Pieces of liver are usually mixed with other pieces of meat, and served together. The stingray liver is considered a delicacy, and is usually served in English and French cuisine. Cod liver is served in its oil and seasoned differently in every country in Europe, being a popular spread for toast and for bread.
